Taos Destination Stewardship in Action
By Jessie Hook - Destination Stewardship Network Manager
βTaos has been a destination for hundreds to thousands of years. People have long come here to trade, to paint, to learn, to be humbled by the light and landscapes. However, being a place that draws people from around the world brings both opportunity and pressureβ¦β
What We Do
We invest in the people, ideas, and projects shaping the future of downtown. Through hands-on programs in business development, public space improvement, community events, and local storytelling, weβre creating a Taos thatβs vibrant, inclusive, and economically resilient. We focus on transformation thatβs visible, tangible, and grounded in community needs.
Destination Stewardship
Supporting responsible tourism in Taos
Destination Stewardship Plans are a relatively new tool supporting tourism organizations, designed to take a holistic approach to overall assessment and strategic planning for developing a roadmap to support the long-term health of destinations and the well-being of host communities. This strategic roadmap will identify, amplify, and align shared community values in ecosystem stewardship, economic vibrancy, infrastructure investments, growth management, and quality of life enhancement for residents.
BRIC
Business Resource and Innovation Center
The Business Resource & Innovation Center (BRIC) will serve as a central hub for business support in Taos Countyβconnecting entrepreneurs, small businesses, and growing enterprises with the tools, guidance, and resources they need to thrive. From startup to expansion, the BRIC will streamline services, foster collaboration, and create a more resilient, pro-business environment. This community-driven initiative is designed to strengthen the local economy while enhancing quality of life for all who live and work in Taos.
Our Vision
& Goals
Weβre building toward a bold, community-driven future. Our vision outlines clear, measurable goals to re-energize downtown Taos, from increasing business activity and enhancing public spaces to deepening cultural engagement and expanding local leadership. Itβs a roadmap for transformation, shaped by the people who live, work, and create here.
Building Together:
Our Projects
Over the years, Taos MainStreet has led and supported a wide range of projects that strengthen our local economy, celebrate our unique culture, and enhance the heart of downtown. From streetscape improvements and public art installations to façade revitalizations, community events, and small business support, each project reflects our ongoing commitment to making Taos a more vibrant, connected, and welcoming place.
